Weekly Wrap up. Week 7. 2025. Teatime Talks, Socials and more

It's a busy one this week! If you just want class updates, please scroll to bottom.

In a week that has seen Ambridge awash with sewage, Eastenders celebrating it's 40th birthday and just a hint of Spring in the air, I am delighted to welcome new online members and see our wonderful community grow to it's largest yet. Online really does work!

There are so many reasons why online works and those of you who tune in day after day, week after week are all too aware of that.

We are able to add extra classes here and there, offer a huge range of variety , as well as our social do's and I am always looking at ways to add more value and support.

To that end, read on....

I am currently working on my You Tube channel. While this won't directly benefit those of you online, it will provide a Shop Front for me to showcase a few of our recorded classes so if you have a reluctant friend or family member who is not convinced, you will be able to steer them this way to be able to sample some of what we get up to.

This is still in it's very early stages so watch this space but it is a very useful way to share to a wider and unsubscribed audience.

I also invite all my "in person" clients and classes to get in touch as I will be sharing some recorded classes here exclusively to you for your home practise too.

                               TEATIME  TALKS

I am absolutely delighted to be bringing back our popular sofa chats - something  I have been quietly working away on for some time now...

I started this way back in Lockdown and  it  was a really popular addition to our calendar.

Online members will find some of the recorded sessions in "Guest teachers" in the library. I have, for some time been rather focused on other areas of my  business develoment  but am now looking to other additions and this is something I have been really keen to bring back.

This is where we pour a glass of something or make a cuppa, log on from the comfort of our sofa and enjoy a talk from a specialist in their field. The wonders of online!

I have some real treats up my sleeve and I am delighted to  launch our 2025 series with a fantastic guest.

Join us for a stroll through Dr Sam’s “Sun Safe Skin” advice, as she talks about the sun’s effects on the skin, how to check your moles, the skin lesions to look out for and to get checked out, and how to keep your skin safe in the sun.

Dr Sam Anthony is an NHS doctor having  worked as a surgeon in Dermatology for the past 20 years, specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancers.

She has lectured and taught skin surgical skills at the University of Hertfordshire, and continues to train junior doctors in skin surgery during her day job, where she is also Skin Cancer Lead.

Sam is wife of the owner of The Arches Physiotherapy clinic in Lymington and  is hoping to bring some of her knowledge and experience to the local community too.

Breaking news! The Arches has collaborated with The Mole Mapping Clinic who are bringing their expertise from Hertfordshire and Essex to Lymington soon.

We will be providing more info on this in due course  but in the meantime,  put Tuesday March 11th in your diary and be ready to pour a drink, get comfy on your sofa and log in for an 18.45pm start.

           EVERYONE IS WELCOME

Online Members - link is in your live calendar - this is NOT the same as your class link so please do log in via the appropriate link!

Non members - please email me for the zoom link.

Socials!

Clare and I are really looking forward to seeing you next Saturday 22nd at 10.30am for a forest walk and hot chocolate. All dogs and well behaved family members  welcome!

If you need more info, please get in touch and don't forget to put Wed 2nd April in your diary as we are heading to the IOW for a walk and lunch(details to follow).

I am in the process of planning some more get togethers of all shapes and sizes during the year so do keep  an eye on Latest News for all updates.  It's going to be a busy year!

What's coming up.

While half term wreaks havoc we will continue with a full timetable. You will need resistance bands and magic circles next week so please get in touch if you need to check.

The "how to avoid a new Knee" part 2 will be coming but I have been very busy with another project for our library which I look forward to sharing with you very soon.

Have you watched Amandaland? available on Iplayer and laugh out loud funny. My favourite, funniest line... (talking about the character played by Joanna Lumley) - "Mummy has very bad scoliosis; it comes from years of looking down on people"

"Every time you repeat a new habit, you are casting a vote for the kind of person you want to become. The more votes you cast, the stronger that identity becomes until one day ...it's just who you are." Charles Duhigg.

Have a great weekend everyone and do spread the word about Dr. Sam's talk - you never know - you might help save someone's life xx

Members news. Week upcoming : Bank Holiday Monday - class running as usual and this coming Wednesday, 2 x 30 min classes. Details in library. As I am away a few days here and there in May/June, I will continue to put in extra classes now and then to keep everyone topped up. It's all about give and take! Following on from requests this week, upcoming we have a Roll over/Control Balance workshop (Thursday 8am), Back care (Thursday 9am) and Body Conditioning, sculpt and tone style (Wed 8am). All updates will always be in your live calendar. We welcome 4 new members this week and can't wait to see you on the screen! We can now add Portugal to our community! That means that currently, we are beaming into the UK from Cornwall to Yorkshire, Spain, Italy, Greece, France, Germany and now Portugal! We are so much more than Pilates and our community continues to support in so many ways. While a couple of our treasured members are going through some hefty challenges, I am so pleased that you use our online connection as a form of support and to use the friendship of your fellow members. Don't forget you can log in 15 mins early for a natter before class and on Thursdays, I will leave the meeting open after we finish the 9.45am class for anyone to stay on and have a chat. Grab a coffee and log back in even if you weren't in the class. If you would like to join our "Friends of JP's" what's app group , let me know - we are slowly growing and it is a friendly place for a chat and check in, (and a grumble about how tough the class was!). Have a lovely weekend, Jx

I want to keep it as on point and brief as I can and here are some cold, hard facts. Doing SOMETHING is a lot better than doing NOTHING! Whatever equipment you use and program you follow is far less important than the fact that you show up. Regularly and consistently. Only 30% of adults meet the resistance training guidelines and this drops to as low 10% for older adults. What is required? Training all major muscle groups at least once a week Aiming for 2 - 3 sets per exercises Using a weight that is getting challenging by the end of the set Moving through full range of movement. Now, why this is good news is that this can be acheived in whatever form of exercise takes your fancy and over here on our Pilates mat, we tick a lot of those boxes. Going into the 100 and wishing for the end, sitting tall in your Spine Twist and pushing for JUST ONE MORE rep is meeting this! We go through full range of movement, we use bodyweight as well as small equipment, so even if you are not lifting weights, you are doing your bit. (N.b. provided this is min. 3 times a week and you are pushing yourself to max ability in each of those sessions in one way or another and bringing in bands, small weights etc for additional resistance) WHAT COUNTS BODYWEIGHT EXERCISES AT HOME BANDS, BALLS, BODY WEIGHT, LOOPS A QUICK EXPRESS SET WHEN YOU GET BACK FROM YOUR RUN/WALKING THE DOG 15 MINS IN THE KITCHEN - YOU DON'T NEED TO COMPLICATE IT IT DOESNT NEED TO BE FANCY, STRUCTURED OR ELABORATE. IT JUST NEEDS TO HAPPEN Generally ALL types of resistance training work, as long as they are performed with high efforts which means that you get to a point where you are almost at failure. In other words, choose what you enjoy as you are more likely to stick to it and work harder at ut. CONSISTENCY IS KEY and the BEST exercise programme to do is the one you enjoy and will be more likely to stick at! MEMBERS. We have multiple classes involving strength and resistance every week. NON MEMBERS - I am just putting dates together for another 4 week strength program. Please email me if you are interested. More details to follow (I am delighted to be starting a 4 week strength training session with my local running club so I really am doing my best to share the love! )
